Why does asset tracking need a mobile app at all?
Because a register stays accurate in proportion to how cheap it is to update. If recording a handover means walking back to a desk, it competes with everything else in that person’s next five minutes and loses. On a phone, at the stores cupboard, it takes about fifteen seconds.

Why the phone, and not a desk
Almost every asset register that goes stale does so for the same reason: the update costs more effort than skipping it. Not because anybody decided the register did not matter — it simply never enters the comparison against getting a new starter set up before their first meeting.
The fix is to make the update a by-product of something useful. Somebody scans a label because they want to know whose laptop this is, or whether the monitor in the meeting room is still under warranty. They get their answer, and the scan writes a dated record as a side effect. Nobody did any admin.
The same logic applies to handovers. A signature captured at the moment a device changes hands happens because it is part of the handover. A form to fill in later is a task, and tasks lose.

FAQ
Questions about the app
Do I need a separate barcode scanner?
No. The phone camera reads QR codes and barcodes, which means everyone who handles equipment already carries a scanner. Bluetooth scanners work too if you own them and prefer a trigger, but nothing needs buying to get started.
Does the app work without an internet connection?
Yes. Scans, handovers, returns and audit checks are written to a local queue on the device and sync when a connection returns. Basement stores, riser cupboards and lifts do not stop a record being made.
Is there an iOS and Android app?
Both, from the same codebase. There is no feature gap between them, and the web console covers anything you would rather do at a desk.
Can staff who are not admins use it?
Yes, and they should. Every plan includes unlimited users, so the office manager, the IT technician and whoever is covering reception can all record a handover. A register maintained only by licensed admins is a register updated second-hand.
Can someone sign for equipment on the phone?
Yes. The handover captures a signature on the device and generates a PDF agreement automatically. That is the moment accountability is created, and it takes about fifteen seconds.
What happens if a QR label is damaged?
Reprint it and scan it against the existing record. The asset keeps its whole history, so a replaced label never costs you the audit trail.
