Stackroom vs Snipe-IT
Snipe-IT is a capable open-source IT asset manager with an active community. If you want to self-host and have the people to run it, that is a real advantage. Stackroom is managed, mobile-first, and covers equipment beyond IT.

Honest take: Snipe-IT leads on self-hosting and cost control if you have infrastructure staff. Stackroom leads on mobile scanning, bookings, and being someone else's problem to run.
Why teams switch
What we hear from teams leaving Snipe-IT
Running it became the job
Self-hosting is genuinely cheaper until you count the upgrades, backups, database maintenance and the person doing them. Teams switch when that time is worth more than the licence saving.
The field team needed a phone, not a browser
Walking a site with a phone that works offline is a different experience from a web form. If most updates happen away from a desk, that gap shows up daily.
It outgrew IT
Once facilities, labs or AV want in, an IT-shaped tool starts to strain. One register covering laptops, instruments and tools avoids running parallel systems.
FAQ
Questions, answered
We like that Snipe-IT is open source. Why move?
If open source is a requirement, keep it. Teams move when the operational burden of hosting outweighs the licence saving, or when they need bookings, offline mobile and non-IT asset types that Snipe-IT is not built around.
Can we export our data out of Stackroom later?
Yes. Full CSV and XLSX export on paid tiers, plus a REST API. We would rather you stay because it works than because leaving is painful.
Can we import our data from Snipe-IT?
Yes. Export your inventory to CSV and import it into Stackroom. Categories, locations and custom fields map across, and our team will help with the awkward parts of a larger migration.
How long does switching actually take?
Most teams import in the morning and run a real checkout the same afternoon. There is no implementation project and no professional services fee. The longest part is usually relabelling, and that can be done gradually.
Do we have to relabel everything?
No. If your existing labels carry a code you already track, import that code and keep using them. New QR labels can be printed on standard address stock as and when you need them.
What does Stackroom cost?
Pricing scales with your team rather than your item count, so registering more equipment never costs more. Current plans are on the pricing page, served from our billing API.
